As the founder of KIKI's Home Box, the move to Finland for my Erasmus exchange studies was both exciting and overwhelming. When I arrived in December 2020, the country was in the midst of a COVID-19 lockdown, which made settling in even more challenging as I was stuck in quarantine and unable to go out and purchase the things I needed.
As I tried to settle in my new home in Finland, I quickly realised how difficult it was to find the right stores for the products I needed at a reasonable price. It was a challenge to navigate the unfamiliar landscape and figure out where to go and what to buy. Even when I finally found a store that seemed to have what I needed, it was often difficult to understand the product details and make informed decisions due to the language barrier as I did not understand Finnish or Swedish. This process ended up consuming so much of my time and energy. I saw first-hand how difficult it could be for immigrants to Finland to get settled and find all the necessary items for their new home.
I knew there had to be a better way. This experience ultimately motivated me to start my own business, KIKI's Home Box, which offers bundled packages of essential home products to make the transition to life in Finland as smooth as possible. I wanted to make it easier for others in my situation to find the essential home products they needed, all in one place and at an affordable price.
I learned a lot about business during my time in Tampere University of Applied Sciences, and I wanted to put that knowledge to good use by starting something that would help others. KIKI's Home Box has been a success, and I'm grateful to be able to give back and make the process of moving to Finland a little bit easier for others. I am proud that we are able to give them AN EASIER START.
